Officials of the Philippine National Police – Kiangan MPS and members of the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Ambabag, Kiangan, Ifugao participated in the conduct of clean-up drive within the vicinity of Ambuwaya Lake. They were joined by some DENR personnel. This lake is one of the prides and legendary wetland in the province.
Ambuwaya lake is like a large pond but the water is fresh, cool and clear which is ideal for recreation, education, research for fishing opportunities and enticing for swimming especially during summer time.
After the clean-up of the surroundings of the Ambuwaya lake, the Barangay and municipal officials, together with the Ifugao Provincial Tourism Officer and DENR PENRO officials agreed to formulate the Management Plan, Work and Financial Plan, and Memorandum of Agreement for the conservation and protection of Ambuwaya lake in conformity with the proposal for its declaration as one of the tourist spots of the province. They agreed to have the initial output before end of June 2022.
In the absence of an approved national wetland policy, the existing related laws on Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act – RA 9147; Philippine Fisheries Code – RA 8550 and the Philippine Forestry Code – PD 705 shall be the underpinning regulatory laws in raising awareness and policy formulation on wetlands conservation and protection activities to benefit the present generation and the future offspring of the Ifugaos.
