Acceptance Speech of the RED for the RIVERS for Life Award

In behalf of the DENR-CAR, I humbly receive this award for showcasing the DENR Brand of Service through the RIVERS for Life Recognition Scheme. Let me congratulate in same measure all the Regional nominees for this award. Surely, you have invested the same efforts as ours in the Cordilleras. This makes me all the more proud and grateful as the validating team acknowledged a hairline variance in our shared excellent service. Thank you for the friendly competition amongst us that have fostered determination in our environmental efforts in each of the beautiful islands of this blessed country. Our efforts in Lamut River only manifest our love for this common heritage of ours.

To the Honorable Secretary, Roy A. Cimatu, thank you for laying the ground for us in working with purposeful impact for the environment and our people! Aramid ti pakakitaan, Apo! Truly, it is in our resolute efforts to bring about positive change in our own local communities that true change is achieved. Today, this nation enjoys a number of visionaries from among our leaders. Sec. Cimatu, “The Lion of the North” has shown tremendous character in his leadership. You have led your Pride of Lions well, Sir. Thank you, it is our honor following your lead.

My highest praises for this award can only be assumed by my associates in the DENR-CAR. As your head, I have always stood with pride in the national scene because of my confidence in your responsible and dedicated service in the uppermost region of our country. You are the proverbial wind beneath my wings! Thank you very much and this honor rightfully rewards all your sacrifices.

To my two able deputies in the Regional Office: ARD-TS For. Augusto D. Lagon and OIC, ARD-MS Atty. Cleo D. Sabado-Andrada; to the equally brilliant RDs of EMB-CAR and MGB-CAR, Ms. Maria Victoria V. Abrera and Ms. Fay W. Apil; to the Center Head of the “Brains of the DENR-CAR”, the Watershed and Water Resources Research, Development and Extension Center (WWRRDEC), Ms. Helen A. Madumba; to the OIC-PENRO of Ifugao, Jose J. Cabrera, Jr.; to all of my staff in the Regional Office who have tirelessly gave justice to package the efforts of our field personnel, to the Local Chief Executives and constituents of the various LGUs traversed by the Lamut River, maraming maraming salamat po sa inyong suporta! Atin po itong lahat!

Allow me also to recognize the efforts of our Regional Focal Person for Lamut River as our Official Entree, Ms. Janie Marie Bonoan-Ang. Thank you for your initiatives and coordinating prowess. Not a single complain came out of your lips from the various challenges and obstacles we have faced in this endeavor. You smiled, giggled and laughed…your unique disposition made all the difference. From Day 1, deep in my heart, I knew that we shall all smile, giggle and laugh our way in receiving this award! Here we are today. Muhn hana ak ken heh-ah Janie!

To all of us, may we continue to work in revitalizing our rivers as a very significant natural asset. This award will only propel us in the Cordilleras to work even harder for our environment and our people. This award also shows that our concerted efforts will lead us to greater heights and lead us to what we have continually struggled for, to receive our Autonomy as a Region at long last.

Mabuhay ang DENR! Mabuhay po tayong lahat!##
